5th Student Conference: Internationalization of Universities – Opportunities and Challenges for Student Bodies

Internationalization shapes the landscape of higher education on various levels: as a defining characteristic of many universities, as part of strategies and concepts, and as a means of strengthening diversity. It also opens doors for new collaborations and promotes exchange in the areas of studying, learning, teaching, and research. When it comes to opportunities for participation at one's university, financial difficulties, assistance with the mostly German-only administrative system, and similar everyday issues, student representative bodies are often the key points of contact. However, they are either not involved or inadequately involved in the process of internationalization at universities – whether due to a lack of integration in the relevant processes or because of other priorities of the student interest groups. From December 13 to 15, 2024, this conference will explore the tensions of internationalization at the Technical University of Braunschweig. In participatory formats, participants will have the opportunity to exchange ideas on various international topics and take away knowledge and tools for their work. You’ll also gain insights into the structure of our Alliance, along with the opportunities, challenges, and experiences related to student engagement—both from the perspective of EUPeace as a project (a 4-year EU-funded initiative with specific milestones and deliverables) and as an alliance (focused on building a long-term community that connects nine universities across Europe).
