EUPeace Dialogue “Strengthening European Values”
25 March 2025
Pilsen House, 31 Place de Jamblinne de Meux, 1030 Brussels, Belgium
EUPeace is the European University for Peace, Justice, and Inclusive Societies.
Our mission is to provide tomorrow’s citizens with the skills, knowledge, and experience to cultivate Peace, Justice, and Inclusive Societies. We explicitly address all sciences and fields, from the humanities and social sciences to the natural and life sciences as well as engineering, and are inspired by the rebuilt bridge of Mostar – the symbol in our logo – as a testament to how dialogue can overcome conflict.
To this end, we are organising one public debate under auspices of the Pilsen Region and hosted at the Pilsen House, 31 Place de Jamblinne de Meux, 1030 Brussels, Belgium.
LUNCH DEBATE: STRENGTHENING EUROPEAN VALUES – UNIVERSITIES AND UNIVERSITY ALLIANCES AT THE CORE
At this lunch debate, we will explore how universities and European University Alliances play a pivotal role in strengthening European values. Amid rising populism and challenges to democratic institutions, higher education’s role is essential. Balancing active citizenship with employability, universities address these challenges through innovative teaching and research, cultivating informed citizens.
An alliance of nine universities across seven countries exemplifies this mission, acting as facilitators of dialogue to bridge divides and foster social cohesion. This aligns with EUPeace’s objective to alleviate societal polarisation and strengthen democracy.
The debate will examine how universities can enhance teaching and research to prepare students for job markets while promoting democratic values such as human rights and inclusivity. It will identify strategies for universities and alliances to uphold European values and contribute to resilient democratic societies amid disinformation and conflicts.
Join university & university alliance leadership in charge of developing the strategies of higher education institutions; lecturers and researchers directly involved in bringing education, research and service to society to reality; students & student representatives who are the first beneficiaries of these activities; and policy-makers, including ministries in charge of higher education, and all stakeholders of higher education.
The full programme will be published soon.
