09.10.2024 Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović Appointed as the New Rector of the University of Sarajevo

The University of Sarajevo is proud to announce the appointment of Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović as its new Rector. Prof. Zaimović, a full professor at the University of Sarajevo – School of Economics and Business, has built an impressive career in both academic and professional fields, contributing to numerous projects in the realm of financial management, digitalization, and education modernization.

Throughout his career, Prof. Zaimović has held various key positions, such as the Portfolio Manager for e-Government at the UNDP Bosnia and Herzegovina and Co-Chair of the e-Government Board of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he played a pivotal role in advancing the country’s digital infrastructure. His leadership in the development and management of ICT portfolios has had a lasting impact on the technological landscape of the region.

In academia, Prof. Zaimović’s efforts have been equally impactful. He was instrumental in the establishment of the e-NET Center, the first distance learning center in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and has authored 11 textbooks, as well as over 40 scientific articles. He has also led or contributed to more than 50 projects that have furthered digitalization and modernization efforts in higher education.

Since 2019, as Vice-Rector for Finance, Prof. Zaimović has overseen the financial stabilization of the University, improving its budget and enabling greater investment in research, infrastructure, and academic programs. His efforts have ensured the University remains financially resilient and ready to face future challenges.

His contributions to academic research, policy development, and financial management will guide the University toward new horizons of growth and international integration. With his experience and vision, the University of Sarajevo is confident that Prof. Zaimović will lead the institution to new heights, and promote academic excellence, innovation, and global cooperation in the years to come.
