20.03.2025 Summary of the first research seminar organised by the EUPeace Research Hub 'Inclusive Health and Well-Being'

The research seminar of the EUPeace Research Hub 'Inclusive Health and Well-Being' brought together researchers and doctoral candidates from diverse fields, focusing on global health justice, food security, chronic disease prevention, molecular biology, and medical research from UNICAL and JLU. The discussion highlighted structural inequalities in healthcare, particularly regarding migrants’ access to health services. Researchers also examined the impact of food systems on health, emphasising the need for sustainable diets and interdisciplinary research. The seminar underscored the importance of neglected crops in food security, particularly in African and European contexts, and the role of participatory research in understanding food environments.
The epidemiological session focused on chronic kidney disease (CKD), proposing EU-wide collaboration to improve early detection. Molecular biology presentations introduced solute carrier (SLC) proteins as key regulators in disease mechanisms and drug absorption, while recombinant protein research showed potential applications in disease modelling and biotechnology.
A key outcome was the emphasis on collaborative projects, with researchers identifying common interests in food security, public health, and biomedical research. The session concluded with a call for new research proposals, particularly under the EUPeace Inclusive Health and Well-Being Research Hub, aiming to bridge gaps between medical, psychosocial, nutritional, and environmental sciences.
