28.11.2024 Work Package 7 "Societal Dialogue" – Presentation of the study "On Political Correctness"
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Mostar hosted a roundtable and workshop titled "From Political (In)correctness to Hate Speech – A Story about Boundaries and Repercussions," within the WP7 “Societal Dialogue” the EUPeace University Alliance.
On this occasion, the study "On Political Correctness" by authors Prof. Dražen Barbarić, Prof. Ana-Mari Bošnjak, and Prof. Domagoj Galić from the University of Mostar was presented on SUM TV. The study was published by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) in Bosnia and Herzegovina and BLC (Banja Luka College).
"The study explains how political correctness has influenced the media, political, and social landscape of modern times. The 'elasticity' of the term has made it synonymous with exaggeration and an unwanted term in the struggle for change. At the local level, it is almost invisible," the conclusion of the study emphasized.
The event, co-organized by the EUPeace alliance and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, began with a roundtable on "Political Correctness and Positive and Negative Campaigns in the Example of Local Elections in B&H 2024," and concluded with a workshop on hate speech, in which students from the Political Science, Security, and International Studies programs, as well as FES alumni from Mostar and Banja Luka, participated.
This event further confirmed the importance of fostering a social dialogue among members of the academic community, media, and non-governmental organizations, with the goal of building a better and more tolerant society.
