Joint degrees at Master level

Joint European Degrees are a key desired outcome. EUPeace will therefore:

  • Develop two programme pilots - one in the Humanities and one in the STEM subject area – for the deep integration of curricula based on the broad roll-out of the European Track. Considering the many roadblocks to be expected and the difficulty of the task, this development is thought of as a process that will, step by step, produce positive effects as we go along to maintain the energy to keep pushing for full European Degrees. The two pilots will be followed by three additional degrees.
  • Integrate the experience of the European Track, the Research Hubs, and the Living Peace Lab into the development

As suggested by our pilot-based approach, we will be very pragmatic in the development of these degrees. We will aim from the outset for a programme integrating a minimum of four members. Rather than a joint degree with the ambition to tick all the boxes for a European Degree, we will develop programmes fostering strategic development interests of the members to build competence, test ideas and ensure buy-in. Building on those assets; we aim to establish five joint programmes within ten years. The Alliance will start out from successful examples such as the Master’s degree in International Migration offered by COMILLAS.

In order to develop European Degrees at Master level, EUPeace will establish a list of up to 10 high potential areas. Beginning with the programme pilots, EUPeace will assess high-profile areas that correspond to EUPeace strategic interests and are at the same time pertinent for responding to societal challenges. This assessment will build on existing programmes as our core assets for the deep integration of EUPeace curricular. Once the EUPeace high potential areas have been determined, a detailed development plan will be built and suitable funding scheme for each will be constructed. The development plan will include the necessary measures to monitor the progress and readjustment for each of the European Degree high potential areas.

To ensure optimal knowledge transfer in the high potential areas and towards full European Degrees, EUPeace will draw on the internal experience gained from setting up the EUPeace European Track.

To develop the necessary legal expertise around European Degrees and to identify potential roadblocks and opportunities in advance, the legal framework of all members is being analysed.
