Open Science
EUPeace promotes open science, open education, and open data practices as central to our institutional and Alliance-wide activities on peace, justice, and inclusion. We fully support the EU Open Science approach to improve the quality, efficiency, and responsiveness of research, and strictly follow the FAIR principles for research data and self-developed research software.
Below is a list of initiatives, ressources, and trainings established at our member universities.
Open Science Initatives
University of Marburg
- UMR is clearly committed to Open Access and adopted its official Open Access Policy in 2015. As described in the Open Access Policy, Philipps-Universität Marburg supports its researchers in publishing Open Access and encourages them to make their research freely available.
- The UMR University Library supports financing articles or monographs in Gold Open Access with the DFG-funded Open Access Fund. If you fulfil all the necessary requirements, your Open Access publication fees can be paid from the fund.
- UMR provides the Open Journal Systems (OJS) software to editors who wish to have their journal hosted by the University Library as an open access journal. OJS enables your journal to have a professional web presence and supports the editorial workflow.
Justus Liebig University Giessen
- JLU supports Gold Open Access publication channels for journal articles and books (monographs and edited volumes) via the Open Access Publication Fund (https://www.uni-giessen.de/ub/de/publizieren/openaccess/oafonds).
- JLU participates in transformation and publishing agreements for publishing in Open Access (https://www.uni-giessen.de/ub/de/publizieren/openaccess/rabatte_oa).
- Open Journal System: The publishing of journals is supported by an Open Journal System (OJS). The OJS is used by the International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture (GCSC), which was established as part of the Excellence Initiative of the German federal and state governments, for the review journal Kult_online and the peer-reviewed journal On_Culture (https://www.on-culture.org/).
University of West Bohemia
- UWB signed Berlin Declaration in 2015 and supports Green Path, publishing in a printed periodical and depositing in an open repository.
- UWB is in the process of transforming to the golden path (on UWB implementation via CzechElib). Transformative agreements (2023 – 2025) - e-resources: CzechELib (https://www.czechelib.cz/en/); Springer Nature, Wiley, Taylor&Francis, Emerald: limited number of tokens for OA publishing; CUP, ACM, SCOAP3: unlimited OA publishing; Sage: APC discount for publishing. Further information: https://www.czechelib.cz/en/442-instructions-for-authors
- There is an annual monitoring of APC, support in creating Persistent Identifiers (PID - Authors ID (ORCID,etc.), DOI, ROR) as well as methodological support to authors (publishing, predatory journals, etc.), including an institutional promotion of OA publishing. But there is no University Open Access Fund to support the payment of publication fees.

University of Marburg
- UMR adopted a research data policy for supporting researchers in research data management and in the preparation and publication of their data in accordance with the FAIR data principles (FAIR: Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable). This work is institutionally supported by the eResearch Service Center (https://www.uni-marburg.de/en/research/contact/eresearch). The topics of research data management and FAIR open data are also dealt with in the regional context of the Hessian Research Data Infrastructures (HeFDI, https://www.uni-marburg.de/de/forschung/kontakt/eresearch/eresearch-trainings/hefdi-angebote) and three consortia of the national research data infrastructures (NFDI)
- UMR offers an open research data repository: https://data.uni-marburg.de/
Justus Liebig University Giessen
- Open Access repository JLUpub: Golden and green Open Access publications are made accessible via the institutional repository, the central infrastructure for OA publishing at JLU. Both research data (JLUdata) and text publications (JLUdocs) can be published on the repository.
