Philipps-Universität Marburg (UMR)/ Marburg University is one of Germany's oldest universities, established in 1527. To its 22,000 students, Marburg University offers excellent teaching and addresses the important issues of our time across the full spectrum of science.   • Academic Calendar

    The University of Marburg's winter and summer semester starting dates vary from year to year, but the semester division corresponds to the following schedule:

    Winter semester: 1. October – 31. March 
    Summer semester: 1. April – 30. September 

    Classes in the winter semester: appx. mid-October – mid-February
    Classes in the summer semester: appx. mid-April – mid-July

  • Accommodation

    Incoming non-degree students to the University of Marburg who participate in the Erasmus+ or Overseas programmes, apply for housing in their application workflow via Mobility Online. In addition, the University of Marburg provides comprehensive information on the process of securing accommodation in central or surrounding areas. 

    For information on student dormitories, please visit the website of the Studierendenwerk. Student dormitory room prices range from €250-500, depending on location and size of the room or apartment.

    Private accommodation can be, but is not always, higher in price, yet still constitutes a valid alternative to the limited dormitory space.

    The University of Marburg's course catalogue offers a wide variety of choices to students of all departments. 

    Please note! The course catalogue is typically published in early August for the winter semester and early March for the spring semester. We advice students to make their initial academic course choices based on the previous year's course listings as the vast majority of classes/modules will be offered again.

  • Application Procedure for Incoming Students

    Depending on the choice and format of your exchange experience, the application processes may vary.

  • Grading System

    The University of Marburg uses a grading scale with a point system ranging from 0 to 15 points. 15 points mark the highest achievable grade; 5 points mark the lowest passing grade; anything below 5 is considered a fail.
